什麼是紅眼症？
結膜炎也稱為紅眼症，是眼球外側透明薄層 (結膜) 發炎。結膜中的小血管發炎時，會變得可見。這會造成眼睛白色的部分泛紅或粉紅色。1 其可能由病毒、細菌、刺激物 (例如洗髮精、煙霧或氯)，抑或是過敏所造成。 發炎由病毒、細菌或刺激物造成時，稱為非過敏性結膜炎。發炎由過敏造成時，稱為過敏性結膜炎。
過敏性結膜炎可能由季節性或全年性過敏造成。
常見的過敏性結膜炎症狀：
- 眼睛和眼瞼發癢
- 發紅
- 灼熱感
- 眼瞼腫脹
- 視力模糊
- 流眼淚
非過敏性結膜炎有時會在人之間輕易傳播， 但過敏性結膜炎不具傳染性。

通常兩眼都會受到影響 (但影響幅度不一定相同)。
眼睛可能會流很多眼淚，但不會變得黏稠。
